Le Château de la Chassagne, situé au lieu-dit La Chassagne dans la paisible commune de Saint-Hilaire-le-Château, est une ancienne forteresse du XVe siècle. 

Son nom vient du latin cassanea, qui signifie « chênaie », rappelant ses origines rurales et forestières. Autrefois siège d’une importante seigneurie médiévale, le domaine s’étendait autrefois sur plusieurs paroisses et comprenait moulins, étangs et métairies ; vestiges de fossés, douves et pont-levis ont disparu avec le temps. 

Aujourd’hui entouré d’un parc arboré de plusieurs hectares, le château accueille des hôtes dans un cadre chargé d’histoire, entre authenticité du bâti ancien et charme de la campagne creusoise. 🐄🌳

The Château de la Chassagne, located in the hamlet of La Chassagne in the peaceful village of Saint-Hilaire-le-Château, is a former 15th-century fortress.

Its name comes from the Latin cassanea, meaning “oak grove,” a reminder of its rural and forest origins. Once the seat of an important medieval lordship, the estate formerly extended over several parishes and included mills, ponds, and farmsteads. Over time, traces of moats, ditches, and the drawbridge have disappeared.

Today, surrounded by several hectares of wooded parkland, the château welcomes guests in a setting rich in history, where the authenticity of the old stone buildings meets the charm of the Creuse countryside. 🐄🌳
